Russ Morrison Trust
Russ Morrison’s legacy benefits young Santa Barbara golfers
Russ Morrison, an avid golfer and athlete on the Santa Barbara High School golf team in the 1970s, was a regular fixture at “Muni,” the city municipal golf course. Russ and his friends could be found at Muni in their free time, a tradition that didn’t stop when Russ graduated from high school and began attending the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB).
Russ’s life was cut short during his time at UCSB when he lost his battle with cancer at the age of just 24. To keep Russ’s memory—and love of golf—alive, his golf coach, teacher Jim Rogers, helped establish the Russ Morrison Trust. The trust awards scholarships to Santa Barbara area high school students to help with their college expenses. Since 1982, the trust established in Russ’s memory has awarded 40 scholarships, totaling $43,000, to local students headed off to college.
The Russ Morrison Trust also helps support Russ Morrison Junior Golf, a year-long, affordably-priced golf program for young people at Santa Barbara Golf Club.
